Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders prediction

Whilst Mumbai Indians contain a stable core of players and are coming off the back of a third-place finish last year after making the play-offs but losing the second qualifier, this is a franchise accustomed to winning and lifting their sixth IPL title will be the target in 2026 for Hardik Pandya and his side.

Jasprit Bumrah leads a bowling attack that includes left-arm pacer Trent Boult and Hardik, whilst the top order remains an exciting prospect with India and IPL legend Rohit Sharma opening the batting. Then of course, you have the core foundations of this Mumbai Indians team in the form of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.

Kolkata Knight Riders spent big at the auction in an attempt to replicate their success of 2024 after losing both their captain and coach since that memorable triumph, paying the price with a disappointing league stage exit in 2025. The two highest auction buys came from KKR, who brought in Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for an overseas record of ₹25.20 crore and Sri Lankan bowler Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore. Pathirana already boasts an IPL title to his name with Chennai Super Kings.

Mumbai are a significantly more settled side than KKR, who are in transition and will likely need time for their unit to gel together effectively. The visitors have the pieces to be successful but putting them all together immediately won’t be an easy job. Whereas Mumbai Indians have been slowly but surely building a settled foundation that should lead to them making a deep run in 2026 and backing them to beat KKR has to be favoured.
