STEVE ERCEG VS ALESSANDRO COSTA LOWDOWN

Steve Erceg (10-1) had a dream debut back in June. He replaced Matt Schnell to take on David Dvorak back at UFC 289. He was a huge underdog and pulled off the upset earning a unanimous decision which extended his streak to nine.

Ironically, he was scheduled to fight Schnell who had to pull out again. Up steps Alessandro Costa (13-3) who’s debut did not quite go so well. He met Amir Albazi in December last year and got knocked out in the third round. However, he responded perfectly by returning the favour and knocking out Jimmy Flick back in June.

STEVE ERCEG VS ALESSANDRO COSTA PREDICTION

Erceg has choked his way into the UFC and his striking continues to improve. Although Costa hits like a truck, we can see the Aussie testing his metal on the feet.

Erceg can throw Costa off with his volume and if he can secure a takedown, he will be in is element. However, he will have to work hard to find the neck of Costa as he is also a very strong grappler.

Erceg is the favourite with a full training camp behind him. He is also very durable and we can see his leg kicks adding up and testing the damaged chin of Costa. The worry for him is that his defence is suspect and Costa has the power to rearrange his face.

That said, the Aussie is durable and he has enough skills of the feet and on the ground to win the exchanges, but he cannot to afford to eat anything clean.

Prediction: Erceg via Decision

Value bet: Costa via KO/TKO
