Los Angeles Knight Riders vs Washington Freedom prediction

Ricky Ponting’s Washington Freedom are aiming to banish the demons of last year, when they lost in the Major League Cricket final to MI New York. They come into the 2026 final on fire with the bat, having recorded a mammoth 508 runs across the Eliminator and Challenger. After chasing down a record 267 to beat MI New York, Washington most recently defended 238/6 against San Francisco Unicorns, winning by seven runs. USA star Andries Gous backed up his astonishing 132 in the Eliminator with 73 vs the Unicorns.

However, Washington are facing their biggest challenge against a Los Angeles Knight Riders outfit who have been one of the best teams over the course of this year’s competition. Finishing the league stage with three straight wins, Los Angeles then got the better of San Francisco in the Qualifier. They are more than capable of mixing it with the Freedom in a high-scorer, which is what we expect again at the Oakland Coliseum.

The big question is whether this incredible batting that we’ve seen from Washington has peaked early, or whether they can carry it through for one more game. With the likes of Steve Smith, Mitchell Owen and Rachin Ravindra backing up Gous, the likelihood is they have one more big innings in them. Combine that with the smart tactical thinking of head coach Ponting and backing the Freedom to go one step further this year looks a good move.
