Jannik Sinner sent out a title warning to his rivals as he crushed Alexander Bublik 6-1 6-1 6-1 in the round-of-16 at the US Open. Bublik had not dropped his serve in the tournament, was on an 11 match winning run and had already beaten Sinner this year in Halle, but he could do nothing to stop the Italian, who created 17 break point opportunities in total and committed just 16 unforced errors.

He will now face fellow countryman Lorenzo Musetti in the last eight. Musetti also came through his round-of-16 match with ease, beating Jaume Munar 6-3 6-0 6-1. The Spaniard seemed to be struggling with illness during the encounter, but Musetti was ruthless and is into a Grand Slam quarter-final for the third time. He had lost five out of his last six matches heading into the tournament, but the world number 10 has found form at the right time.

This is their first meeting on an outdoor hard court, but Sinner leads the head-to-head 2-0. Sinner’s extremely high-level baseline game is a big problem for Musetti, who struggles to establish his own rhythm due to the relentless pressure applied by the world number one. Sinner was back to his best in the last round and another straight sets victory is highly probable.
