Having lost James Vince and now Liam Dawson from First-Class cricket, a relegation battle awaits Hampshire in the County Championship but the Blast offers respite. However, their campaign started poorly as they were hammered by defending champions Somerset at Taunton, bowled out for 158 before conceding victory in just 16.2 overs with seven wickets left still to get.

Essex head down to the south coast having suffered their only fairly heavy defeat. After posting 191-5 at Chelmsford against the Sussex Sharks, Essex gave up the victory in just 16 overs with all of their bowlers taking a heavy hitting, most notably overseas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder.

Essex do appear to have a varied and impressive side and, with Hampshire appearing to be in a bit of flux at the moment, siding with the visitors remains a decent bet.
