Hamad Medjedeovic’s best showing on clay so far this season was at the Barcelona Open. He got through both rounds of qualifying and then defeated Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first-round. His next match was against defending champion and three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud. The Serbian was a break up in both sets, playing some delightful, aggressive tennis but he couldn’t maintain the consistency and lost 7-5 7-5.
He was unable to capitalise on that decent run in Madrid as he lost in the first-round to Tomas Martin Etcheverry in three sets. He did have his chances, taking just two out of a staggering 22 break point opportunities.
He faces Otto Virtanen for the first time as his Italian Open campaign gets underway. Virtanen was on a three-match losing streak before the qualifying round but managed to get through both stages with minimal fuss.
