Sweden are lining up in their 13th edition of the FIFA World Cup™ and are returning for the first time since 2018.
The Blågult’s finest hour on the global stage came in 1958, when they made home comforts count to reach the trophy decider, ultimately finishing runners-up to Brazil. The Swedes have placed in the top four on three other occasions: finishing third in both 1950 and 1994 and fourth in 1938.
Sweden have reached the knockout phase in each of their last four tournament campaigns, with the Scandinavians’ last group-stage exit having come back in 1990.
They booked their place at the 2026 showpiece through the UEFA play‑offs, defeating Ukraine 3-1 in the semi‑finals thanks to a Viktor Gyökeres hat‑trick. In a dramatic final, Gyökeres delivered again, scoring an 88th‑minute winner as Sweden edged Poland 3-2.
