Alongside captain Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic remains a key man in the middle of the park for Zlatko Dalic and his Croatian side. Dalic has commented upon Kovacic’s injury issues throughout this season not being ideal but the former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder did find form and fitness towards the back end of the campaign at the Etihad Stadium. The 32-year-old heads into FIFA World Cup 2026 with over 100 caps and his ability to maintain possession and protect the ball will be much-needed in the heat of North America.
