FPL Gameweek 8 – Captain Picks
Whilst FPL managers will need to contend with a second consecutive midweek packed with Champions League football, it’s still not too early to beginning focusing on Gameweek 8 and who best to captain in a bid to gain an edge on the competition. With that in mind, we’ve come up with our three picks expected to generate high interest from within the community, alongside a left-field pick who doesn’t get talked about as much.
Popular Options
Alexander Isak (£9.0m) vs BHA (H)
Back fit and starting games for Liverpool, Alexander Isak (£9.0m) is beginning to justify that big transfer fee with some attacking contributions. His goal in Gameweek 7 against Brentford made it five in his last five Premier League starts for the Reds and also saw him pick up his highest FPL score of the season, nine points with the award of three BPS.
Although Liverpool will face a tough test in Gameweek 8 with the visit of a scorching-hot Brighton to Anfield, Isak’s searing pace and natural instincts in front of goal make him a threat against any backline. When taking into account his new-found confidence and good form, now might be the perfect time to hand Isak the armband.
Cole Palmer (£7.8m) vs TOT (H)
Always an enticing FPL asset, especially under the command of Xabi Alonso, Cole Palmer (£7.8m) will be looking to get back in among the attacking returns after drawing a black away at Everton this past weekend. Despite Chelsea winning the game 0-2, there was no return for Palmer. At Stamford Bridge though, the attacking midfielder boasts one goal, three assists and 20 FPL points this season across three league games so far.
An inter-city derby awaits Chelsea and Palmer in Gameweek 8 with Spurs making the short journey to West London. That alone, should serve as the ideal motivation for Palmer to make a decisive impact on proceedings this coming weekend and enhances his appeal as an FPL captain in the process.
Erling Haaland (£15.7m) vs AVL (a)
Whilst there is an injury concern over Erling Haaland (£15.7m), who limped off at the end of Man City’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich last Saturday in which he found the net twice, the expectation is that FPL’s most valuable forward will be available from the start in Gameweek 8. He’ll need to be, with Enzo Maresca’s side facing a stern challenge away to Aston Villa.
Haaland is as fixture-proof as you can get though when taking into account his goalscoring record. The Norwegian striker has already netted eight times this season across seven gameweeks and that’s not including his four goals scored in the Champions League. With 58 FPL points to his name, no forward has more so far this season. Expect plenty to captain Haaland, regardless of the difficult fixture.

Evanilson (£6.1m) vs MUN (a)
Speaking of form strikers, Evanilson (£6.1m) deserves some serious love and for FPL managers, he potentially deserves the armband if you’re looking for a Gameweek 8 differential. His last Premier League game saw him accrue 12 points, racking up a goal and an assist in Bournemouth’s win against Sunderland.
It’s now four attacking returns in as many gameweeks for Evanilson, along with 26 FPL points, an average of 6.5 points per fixture across that period. Bournemouth takes on an out of sorts Man Utd in Gameweek 8 with the Red Devils having not kept a clean sheet all season. Evanilson’s small pocket of owners makes him serious differential material.
