THE KEY STATS

  • Brighton have won their last two Europa League matches at home without conceding a goal.
  • João Pedro has scored in all three of Brighton’s Europa League home matches this season.
  • Roma have won their last nine UEFA competition two-legged ties.
  • Roma have lost only one of their last 13 UEFA competition matches (W7 D5).
  • Roma have not lost the second leg in any of their last 14 UEFA competition two-legged ties (W8 D6).
  • Roma have lost only three of their last 14 European matches against English teams (W7 D4).
  • Roma have won only one of their previous 19 European matches away from home against English teams (D7 L11).
  • This is the third time that Roma have won a European tie at home in the first leg by a 4-0 scoreline. The first came against Belgian club Eendracht Aalst in the second round of the UEFA Cup in 1995/96. Macedonian club FK Vardar were the opponents on the second occasion which Roma won 4-0 at home in a first leg, which was also in the UEFA Cup in 2003/04. In both instances, Roma progressed to the next round.

THE PREDICTION

It would take a miracle for Brighton and Hove Albion to overturn their first-leg deficit and progress into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League. Roberto De Zerbi’s men were hammered 4-0 by Roma at the Stadio Olimpico but did earn a much-needed 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest last weekend at the AMEX Stadium. Daniele De Rossi’s Roma scored a 95th minute equaliser to rescue a point against Fiorentina, meaning they have lost just one game, against champions-elect Inter, in 11 matches under De Rossi. A fun and high-scoring second-leg remains likely, despite the fact Brighton are all but out.

TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
