THE LOWDOWN

Mallorca

Last season, Javier Aguirre performed well to guide Real Mallorca to safety and the Mexican has backed that up by ensuring another mid-table finish for the Balearic Islanders.

Despite an impressive campaign and a generally impressive return to the top-flight since their promotion in 2021, Mallorca do come into this on the back of some indifferent form. The hosts’ most recent outing, a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Almeria, means they have now managed just one win in their last five matches.

That loss last week saw Mallorca comfortably humbled at Estadio Mediterraneo with Almeria dominant throughout the encounter via a Lazaro hat-trick.

Valencia

Since the appointment of Ruben Baraja, Valencia have enjoyed some improved performances but, most importantly, results and they have finally moved towards basically assuring themselves of La Liga survival.

Last weekend’s victory at home to Real Madrid means Valencia have now suffered just one loss in their last six matches. They have collected 13 points in those games, too, as they now begin this midweek’s round of fixtures sitting five points clear of the bottom three and the relegation places.

Their victory over Real Madrid last weekend was overshadowed, though, by racist abuse aimed at Vinicius by sections of the Valencia crowd, followed by Vinicius’ red card when trying to an escape from a chokehold by Hugo Duro.

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that, with three games to go, are pretty much assured of their La Liga status for next season. Mallorca have very little to play for with their feint hopes of finishing in the top seven now gone after that aforementioned loss to Almeria. Valencia, on the other hand, still require something to make absolutely sure before they head into their final two matches against fellow strugglers Espanyol and European qualifiers Real Betis. They will head to Palma with a lot of confidence, given their recent record.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE - VALENCIA TO WIN OR DRAW
