THE LOWDOWN
LAS PALMAS
Following promotion last season, it has been a really impressive campaign for Las Palmas as they attempt to challenge for a top seven finish and potential European qualification in La Liga. The Canary Islanders come into this weekend sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table and just a few points below the aforementioned top seven.
However, coached by former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, Las Palmas did have their current winless run of form extended to four matches last weekend with a defeat at home to Athletic Club. Gorka Guruzeta scored in the first-half of that match before Saul Coco scored an own goal mid-way through the second-half.
ALMERIA
Like clubs such as Burnley and Sheffield United in England or Salernitana in Italy, Almeria are currently in a holding pattern whereby they are simply awaiting their fate to be mathematically confirmed as they are destined for a return to the second-tier with this being a real season to forget for the Andalusians who are still, remarkably, winless in La Liga.
They begin the weekend sitting 14 points adrift with just ten matches to go under the management of Rubi, who is their third manager of the campaign. They come into this one on the back of a 2-2 draw in a regional derby with Sevilla last week as Marko Milovanovic scored a 95th minute equalising goal in that match.
THE TEAM NEWS
LAS PALMAS
Las Palmas have a couple of availability issues for this weekend as Saul Coco is missing through suspension, whilst Cristian Herrera is an injury doubt, too.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Valles; Araujo, Suarez, Marmol, Cardona; Campana; Munir, Javier Munoz, Rodriguez, Sandro Ramirez; Moleiro
UNAVAILABLE: Coco (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE: Herrera (Injured)
ALMERIA
Both Dion Lopy and Edgar Gonzalez are out suspended for this weekend, whilst Luis Suarez and Ibrahima Kone are injury absentees for Almeria.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Pubill, Montes, Radovanovic, Centelles; Baba, Melero; Romero, Viera, Embarba; Lozano
UNAVAILABLE: Lopy (Suspended), Edgar Gonzalez (Suspended), Suarez (Injured), Kone (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Robertone (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
At the start of this season, both of these teams would have been expected to be battling against each other in the relegation battle. However, they have experienced very different campaigns with Las Palmas still fighting for potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualification. Almeria look like they really could go winless throughout this season and they are also on course to record the lowest points total in the history of Las Palmas. With their home advantage, Las Palmas are expected to get back to winning ways.
