THE LOWDOWN
Girona
Michel's Girona are still in the hunt for a top seven La Liga finish and potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualification, following promotion from the Segunda last season. The Catalans saved a point in the Basque country last weekend, fighting back from 2-0 down against Real Sociedad.
They held on for that vital point after Oriol Romeu's 87th minute red card. Girona have been entertaining throughout the campaign and their fight last weekend was just another sign of that with Yan Couto and Cristhian Stuani both managing to score before half-time.
The hosts' 34 games this season have consisted of 102 goals. Only three teams, the top three, have scored more goals than Girona so far this season, whilst only six sides have conceded more than them, too.
Villarreal
Under the management of Quique Setien, Villarreal are still ever so slightly in contention for a top four finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification. With four games to go, they begin this weekend's round of fixtures sitting five points behind Real Sociedad in the top four.
The Yellow Submarine come into this on the back of an impressive 5-1 hammering of Athletic Club in their most recent outing, last weekend, meaning they have collected ten points in their last four Liga matches. They have scored 13 goals in their last four games, too.
Villarreal's 5-1 hammering of the aforementioned Basque club was a comprehensive mauling from start to finish. Alex Baena began the scoring inside 25 minutes before completing the rout in second-half stoppage-time.
THE PREDICTION
These are two entertaining sides chasing different forms of European qualification. Girona have never competed in UEFA competition with their best ever finish being tenth in the top-flight in the 2017/18 campaign and that is very much on the cards this season. Villarreal, on the other hand, have been recent UEFA Champions League semi-finalists and UEFA Europa League winners. The visitors have been, arguably, as good to watch against Girona with 52 goals scored in 34 games. This should be a high-scoring and thrilling encounter.
