THE LOWDOWN

CELTA VIGO

For much of the first-half of this campaign, Celta Vigo suffered from being relatively unfortunate. Performances remained fairly strong but the Galicians were not getting the desired results and they were set for a dramatic relegation battle so the decision was finally taken in March to replace Rafa Benitez with Celta B coach Claudio Giraldez.

Giraldez has not had to do too much as they try and push themselves eventually away from the bottom three and the relegation places. They were most recently hammered 3-0 by Deportivo Alaves, last weekend, to make it just one win in their last four matches as they fend off Cadiz in the bottom three.

VILLARREAL

Villarreal endured a very turbulent start to the campaign with both Quique Setien and Pacheta being sacked before the November international break. Former Olympique de Marseille and Valencia boss Marcelino also stuttered at the start of his reign but there is a chance the Yellow Submarine can finish with a flourish and push themselves towards the top seven.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering of Rayo Vallecano last weekend with goals coming from Yerson Mosquera as well as a brace from Norway international striker Alexander Sorloth. That means Villarreal have now suffered just two defeats in their last 14 matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

CELTA VIGO

Celta Vigo will still be missing defender Joseph Aidoo for this weekend’s encounter, whilst Renato Tapia is also a doubt as they face Villarreal.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Guaita; Mingueza, Dominguez, Nunez; Perez, Beltran, Jailson, Sanchez; Aspas, Douvikas, Alvarez

UNAVAILABLE: Aidoo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Tapia (Injured)

VILLARREAL

Both Denis Suarez and Bertrand Traore are out injured, whilst Eric Bailly, Juan Foyth, Alfonso Pedraza and Gerard Moreno are doubtful as they face Celta.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Jorgensen; Kiko Femenia, Albiol, Mosquera, Alberto Moreno; Akhomach, Comesana, Dani Parejo, Alex Baena; Goncalo Guedes, Sorloth

UNAVAILABLE: Traore (Injured), Suarez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gerard (Injured), Pedraza (Injured), Foyth (Injured), Bailly (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Villarreal are heading to Balaidos with aspirations of putting the squeeze on an in-form Real Betis side tucked in the top seven and the UEFA Europa Conference League places. Celta Vigo haven’t been good enough to be complacent but their slight cushion away from Cadiz means that they may well end up being so – even if they weren’t, though, the quality and form of the visitors marks them out as the firm favourites for this one up in the north west of Spain.

TIP: VILLARREAL TO WIN
