THE LOWDOWN
CELTA VIGO
Throughout last year, Celta Vigo found themselves in a battle against relegation. When Carlos Carvalhal improved the Galicians after Eduardo Coudet’s dismissal, it had seemed like it would be a comfortable mid-table finish but they collapsed and only narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of the season.
Over the summer, they appointed Rafa Benitez but he was frustrated with their transfer window in which they sold star man Gabri Veiga to Al Ahli of the Saudi Pro League. Performances have been better than their results have suggested but a 2-1 defeat away to Las Palmas last week means they begin the weekend sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places.
GETAFE
Towards the end of last season, during the March international break, Quique Sanchez Flores was replaced by their former manager, Jose Bordalas, and they eventually avoided relegation on the final day of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign. They are finally getting back to their aggressive and almost comical style of football under Bordalas.
They began the season with a goalless draw against defending champions Barcelona on the opening day of the season. Since then they have been quite consistent as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the middle-of-the-table. They have managed two victories and three draws in their opening eight matches.
THE TEAM NEWS
CELTA VIGO
Rafa Benitez is blessed for this weekend’s visit of Getafe with no injury or suspension concerns so they could be unchanged, albeit unlikely after a loss to Las Palmas.
PREDICTED XI (X-X-X-X): Villar; Mingueza, Aidoo, Starfelt, Nunez, Sanchez; Dotor, Beltran, Bamba; Douvikas, Strand Larsen

GETAFE
Jose Angel Carmona has joined Getafe’s injury list, alongside the likes of Luis Milla and Enes Unal, giving Jose Bordalas an added headache for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Soria; Djene, Mitrovic, Alvarez, Rico; Suarez, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Oscar; Mata, Mayoral
UNAVAILABLE: Carmona (Injured), Milla (Injured), Unal (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
There is a lot riding on this one with the pressure already growing on Rafa Benitez. Celta Vigo have managed just one win in their opening eight matches and their late loss in the Canary Islands last week was a continuation of a theme that will leave many supporters thinking they aren’t quite getting unlucky anymore. Getafe faced ten men for well over an hour last week, had over 20 shots and nine on target to Villarreal’s zero on goal and the Madrid club could not score. Given all of that, under 2.5 goals seems inevitable for this one.
TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
