CADIZ
Cadiz gained promotion to La Liga a few years ago and ever since then the Andalusians have been one of the main favourites for relegation. However, every season they have managed to avoid the drop and did so once again on the final day of the campaign last year but, as ever, are expected to struggle this time around.
They remain under the management of Sergio and did begin the 2023/24 La Liga season with a 1-0 victory at home to newly-promoted Alaves. Their most recent outing, a 3-2 defeat away to Atletico Madrid in which they had led by two goals to nil, does mean they have managed just one victory in seven games since the opening day.
GIRONA
In 2022, Girona gained promotion to the Spanish top-flight and then enjoyed an impressive season in La Liga, performing as one of the most entertaining teams in the division with only four teams scoring more and the bottom four conceding more often. The Catalans lost Oriol Romeu and Valentin Castellanos over the summer transfer window but have remained strong.
Under the management of Michel, they began with a 1-1 draw away to Real Sociedad on the opening day of the season before then, remarkably, enjoying six successive La Liga victories before they were then beaten by Real Madrid last weekend. Joselu, Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni put Girona to the sword in a 3-0 result.

Cadiz are missing several players for this weekend with Luis Hernandez joining a growing injury list that includes the likes of Victor Chust, Juan Cala and Fede.

THE PREDICTION
Sergio has a reputation for being a relatively defensive coach but, against a good side last weekend, his Cadiz side went to Atletico Madrid and raced into a two-goal lead. They will not be consistently entertaining but can cause a threat and now they face the league’s entertainers, who have had 29 goals come in their eight matches so far this season. Girona have enjoyed an excellent start and, whilst they were hammered last weekend, will still fancy their chances of at least scoring one or two down in Andalusia.
