THE LOWDOWN

VITORIA

In the summer of 2022, Vitoria lost their manager, Pepa, as well as several key players such as Andre Almeida, Rochinha, Marcus Edwards, Ricardo Quaresma and Oscar Estupinan. Despite that, the Guimaraes club managed to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League, only to be knocked out in the qualifying rounds for a second successive season.

Despite yet another early exit from European competition, Moreno’s side started well domestically with three successive league wins. However, since those opening victories, they have collected just one further point and they come into this on the back of a frustrating goalless draw away to Casa Pia in their most recent outing, last weekend.

ESTORIL

In 2021, Estoril gained promotion back to the top-flight before narrowly missing out on European qualification under Bruno Pinheiro. He has since departed the club and they have stagnated a touch, finishing last year in the bottom-half. Over the summer, though, optimism was reignited with the appointment of Alvaro Pacheco.

However, it has been a difficult start to the campaign for the former Chaves boss with the visitors currently sitting in the bottom two and the automatic relegation places with just one victory in their opening six matches of the campaign. They shared a 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Vizela last weekend, following on from three successive defeats.

THE TEAM NEWS

VITORIA

Moreno has a small squad and he is without a couple of first-team players due to injuries but he could still name an unchanged eleven for this weekend’s encounter.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Bruno Varela; Fernandes, M.Silva, Ribeiro; Gaspar, T.Silva, Handel, Freitas; Mendes, A.Silva, J.Silva

ESTORIL

Alvaro Pacheco, searching for some consistency and rhythm, has a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s encounter with no injuries or suspensions.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Carne; Vital, Alvaro, Cabaco; Gomes, Fernandes, Holsgrove, Araujo; Guitane, Marques; Cassiano

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides would have come into the season hoping to be pushing towards the top six and the European places once again. Vitoria have underwhelmed in each of their last two European campaigns, being knocked out in the qualifying stages of the competition. They started well but have since dipped with one point collected in three matches, whilst Estoril are absolutely not worth backing given their really poor start to the campaign. Given that, under 2.5 goals seems quite likely for this one, regardless of the match result.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
