THE LOWDOWN
RIO AVE
Rio Ave are one of a number of sides to have gained promotion to the Portuguese top-flight and then immediately settled in well to life in the Primeira Liga. They will have been eyeing up a top six finish and potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualification this season, especially after keeping hold of manager Luis Freire over the summer.
The home team begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation playoff places, though. Rio Ave have managed just one win in their opening six matches, underperforming those pre-season expectations. They come into this on the back of a comfortable 2-0 loss away to Sporting CP in the capital city last week.
MOREIRENSE
The Portuguese Primeira Liga is a league that has gained a reputation for its defensive attitudes and reactive coaching philosophies. However, in gaining automatic promotion to the top-flight as second-tier champions last year, Moreirense are seeking to abandon those stereotypes, gaining promotion by scoring 25 goals more than the next best in the second division last season.
The more exciting and fluent visitors, under the management of Rui Borges, have started the campaign with two victories, a draw and three defeats in what has been a more than respectable start to the campaign. They managed to sneak past Farense, who came up with them last season, by a goal to nil last Saturday afternoon.

MOREIRENSE
Moreirense have a couple of injury doubts but nothing fresh so Rui Borges will be expected to name an unchanged eleven from their defeat of Farense last weekend.

THE PREDICTION
This one could well be a surprisingly entertaining encounter on Sunday afternoon. Rio Ave have underperformed so far this season but will view facing newly-promoted opposition at home as a great opportunity to find some sort of form. Moreirense, on the other hand, will hope that they can indeed continue their reasonable and steady start to the campaign against struggling opposition. Both teams scoring looks the way to go for this one.
