THE TEAM NEWS

TIGRES UANL

  • Tigres UANL have been quite inconsistent to start the season, and it’s clear they are not playing at a very high level to begin the year since they have won just one of their first four Clausura matches. They’re coming off a disappointing 2-0 away defeat at Pachuca.
  • Francisco Torres, Diego Reyes and Francisco Meza have been ruled out due to injury, while Julian Quinones will be questionable and should be a game-time decision. Rafael Carioca should also be a game-time call due to a muscular problem, and Hugo Ayala’s availability could be in question as well.

Expected starting XI: Nahuel Guzman; Luis Rodriguez, Juan Martinez, Diego Reyes, Carlos Salcedo; Jesus Duenas, Guido Pizarro, Javier Aquino; Federico Lopez, Andre-Pierre Gignac, Luis Quinones

GUADALAJARA

  • Guadalajara remain undefeated in the Clausura but they are currently riding a three-game draw streak that should leave fans displeased given the team’s expectations for this season. They enter this contest following a 2-2 away draw at Atletico San Luis.
  • Jesus Sanchez remains out with an injury, but he should be ready to return sooner than later. Alexis Ernesto Vega is doubtful, and Jose Juan Macias has been listed as out, meaning Chivas could enter this game without their top two attackers.

Expected starting XI: Jose Antonio Rodriguez; Cristian Calderon, Hiram Mier, Jose Maduena, Miguel Ponce; Gilberto Sepulveda, Fernando Beltran, Jesus Molina; Javier Lopez; Uriel Antuna, Oribe Peralta (Ronaldo Cisneros)

THE PREDICTION

Three of the last four league matches between these two sides have ended with under 2.5 goals scored, so we could be in line for another low-scoring affair once again. Tigres have been struggling but are due for a bounce-back performance, while Guadalajara have been under-performing of late and seem to be playing worse and worse following each draw. Injuries might have taken a toll on the Guadalajara squad, however, and they remain depleted ahead of this game. That should be enough to list Tigres as favourites here in a match between two of the Liga MX powerhouses.
