THE LOWDOWN

SALERNITANA

Onto their third manager of the campaign with Fabio Liverani in the dugout after failed stints from Paulo Sousa and Filippo Inzaghi, it has been quite a miserable campaign for Salernitana as they remain rock-bottom in Serie A and begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting ten points adrift of safety with ten games to go.

They come into this one on the back of a 4-2 loss in Sardinia against an improving Cagliari side in their most recent outing, last weekend. Gianluca Lapadula scored the opening goal in that game after 12 minutes before Gianluca Gaetano and Eldor Shomurodov made it 3-0 just after half-time. Grigoris Kastanos and Giulio Maggiore brought Salernitana back into the game before Shomurodov sealed it.

LECCE

Last weekend, after a fiery contest with Hellas Verona, Lecce boss Roberto D’Aversa entered the field of play and proceeded to plant a headbutt on Verona forward Thomas Henry, who was also sent off. Michael Folorunsho scored the only goal in the game as Verona edged past struggling Lecce by a goal to nil at the Bentegodi.

A day later, Lecce decided to part company with D’Aversa as the Pugliese-based outfit languish in the Serie A relegation battle. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just a point outside of the bottom three and the relegation places with one draw and four defeats in their last five matches in Serie A.

THE PREDICTION

Salernitana are in a position similar to that of Sheffield United and Burnley in England or Almeria and Granada in Spain whereby they are simply awaiting their relegation to be mathematically confirmed in the near future. Lecce, at the time of writing, head up to Salerno without a manager and that could go either way. The likelihood, though, is that it goes a positive way up against a team that have been so poor this season.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LECCE TO WIN OR DRAW
