THE LOWDOWN

GENOA

There are serious issues over the ownership of 777 Partners with the American group come under intense law enforcement scrutiny in the United States and their takeover of Everton in jeopardy. At Genoa, they embarked upon an ambitious summer transfer window last year and have enjoyed an impressive campaign on the pitch, too.

Coached by 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino, Genoa sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table after they gained promotion to the top-flight last season. The hosts come into this one on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against AC Milan at San Siro, meaning they have now suffered just one loss in their last seven matches.

SASSUOLO

Following the sacking of Alessio Dionisi in February and the subsequent appointment of Davide Ballardini, Sassuolo barely improved. They have been really underwhelming as they remain firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places. However, their shock victory last season means they have given themselves a champions.

Runaway champions Inter have suffered just two defeats all season in Serie A and, quite remarkably, both of those losses have come against Sassuolo. The second of which came last weekend as Armand Lauriente scored a 20th minute winning goal. That victory ended a six-match winless run of form in Italy’s top-flight.

THE TEAM NEWS

GENOA

There are no definite injuries for Genoa this weekend but the likes of Mattia Bani, Vitinha and Ruslan Malinovskiy all remain doubtful for the visit of Sassuolo.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Martinez; Vogliacco, De Winter, Vasquez; Spence, Frendrup, Badelj, Thorsby, Caricol; Ekuban, Retegui

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Vitinha (Injured), Bani (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured)

SASSUOLO

Sassuolo have three key injury concerns for this weekend’s trip to Genoa as attacker Samu Castillejo, Gregoire Defrel and Domenico Berardi are all unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Toljan, Erlic, Ferrari, Viti; Henrique, Thorstvedt; Konradsen, Bajrami, Lauriente; Pinamonti

UNAVAILABLE: Defrel (Injured), Castillejo (Injured), Berardi (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

There is a lot riding on this game for Sassuolo. It has been a really strong season for Genoa to comfortably avoid even a relegation battle in their first season back in the top-flight, albeit they made some very good signings last summer such as Ruslan Malinovskiy and Mateo Retegui. Sassuolo are missing three key attackers so have become a little more defensive than the previous Dionisi DNA. Genoa, though, rarely get beat at the moment and siding with them, especially with home advantage, seems a safe bet.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – GENOA TO WIN OR DRAW
