THE LOWDOWN
FROSINONE
Following promotion last season under the management of Fabio Grosso, Frosinone decided to replace the 2006 Italian FIFA World Cup winner with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco. They remain a team that are expected to spend pretty much the entirety of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign in a relegation battle.
Despite those expectations, the Rome-based club have started this season extremely well. They were beaten in a derby against Roma by two goals to nil last weekend but, before that, had suffered just one loss in their opening six matches. They remain in the top-half ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.
HELLAS VERONA
A change in regulations at the start of last season meant any teams level on points in meaningful positions by the end of the campaign would have a post-season playoff to determine the outcome. Hellas Verona finished 18th, below Spezia on goal difference, but managed to avoid relegation to Serie B with a victory in the playoff in June.
Then, over the summer, they appointed Marco Baroni, who had led Lecce to promotion in 2022 and then quickly established them in mid-table last season. Verona began this season with back-to-back victories but have since scored just one goal and collected just two points in their next five matches as they sit in the bottom-half of the table.
