THE LOWDOWN

PSG

In what is Kylian Mbappe’s final season in Paris, Luis Enrique has discussed the possibility of sending him off with a fairytale ending and that really is possible as the Parisiens eye up a historic treble. They moved one step closer to that dream in midweek with a defeat of Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Early on in the second-leg in Catalonia, Barcelona went 4-2 up on aggregate but PSG rallied and benefitted from the second off of Ronald Araujo to win 4-1 on the night and move a step closer to Wembley. They have a Coupe de France final to look forward to, too, and begin this weekend sitting ten points clear at the top-of-the-table.

LYON

Olympique Lyonnais enjoyed a remarkable victory over high flying Stade Brest at Parc OL last weekend as they edged past Eric Roy’s men by four goals to three. Brest led 3-1 until the 70th minute but, for a second successive week, Lyon rallied late to steal all three points with Ainsley Maitland-Niles scoring a winning penalty in the 16th minute of second-half stoppage-time.

Ever since the appointment of Pierre Sage in early December, who followed the sackings of Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso, Lyon have been one of the best teams in the country and are challenging for European qualification. That victory last weekend means have won 17 and lost three of their last 20 matches across all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

As they ease to another French title, PSG have tried to balance domestic and European commitments by heavily rotating in Ligue 1. Even though this is one of the more famous rivalries in French football, Luis Enrique cares not for tradition and will likely rotate again. That has led to PSG drawing a lot of matches this season. Lyon have been magnificent for nearly half a year now and will go to Parc des Princes full of confidence. Both teams scoring seems likely and extra value would be to get against PSG in what is a dress rehearsal of next month’s cup final.

TIP: LYON TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
