Francesco Farioli has never played professional football but took two Turkish Super Ligue clubs to kickstart his managerial career. Over the summer the southerners took a punt on the inexperienced Italian and it is paying off so far this season. In six matches so far, Nice remain unbeaten with three wins and three draws, having defeated Monaco by a goal to nil, last weekend.
That defeat of Monaco was their third in a row after beginning with three draws. The Riviera club hired Farioli for the interesting style of football that he intends to play, having previously worked with Roberto De Zerbi. So, despite their fine start, eight goals scored and four goals conceded is actually not quite what was expected of the hosts.
BREST
Not many would have picked Stade Brest to be heading into the autumnal month of October as the league leaders but that is the case. Under the management of former Sunderland player Eric Roy, Brest sit right at the very top with a defeat of Lyon last weekend continuing their fine start to the season in which they have managed four victories and a draw in six games so far.
That win against Lyon made it back-to-back wins for Brest after they defeated Stade de Reims by two goals to one last weekend. Last season they finished just a couple of places outside of the bottom four and the relegation places so, even with it being such an early stage of the season, this is a major surprise.
