THE LOWDOWN
MARSEILLE
In February, former Ivory Coast boss Jean-Louis Gasset became Olympique de Marseille’s third coach of the season after both Marcelino and Gennaro Gattuso were sacked at the hostile and demanding southerners. They have generally improved since his appointment but are now languishing firmly in the middle-of-the-table.
The southerners come into this one on the back of being hammered 3-0 by Atalanta in Bergamo in midweek in the second-leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final tie, completing a 4-1 aggregate loss. That result means Marseille have now managed just two victories in their last 11 matches across all competitions.
LORIENT
Under the management of Regis Le Bris, Lorient come into this one on the back of an absolutely terrible run of form which has made relegation an inevitability at this stage. They are six points adrift of outright safety and three behind the relegation playoff place with just one game of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign to go.
They have been the subject of major off-field unrest and supporter protest throughout this season after an American takeover by Bill Foley, which has effectively made them a feeder club to Premier League side AFC Bournemouth. They come into this one on the back of six successive losses in Ligue 1.
THE TEAM NEWS
MARSEILLE
There are a couple of defensive injury issues for Olympique de Marseille this weekend as both Valentin Rongier and Leonardo Balerdi are unavailable.

LORIENT
Lorient have a few injury concerns as they travel down to the south of France with Formose Mendy, Igor Silva, Quentin Boisgard and Bamba Dieng all unavailable.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Mvogo; Adjei, Talbi, Laporte; Katseris, Abergel, Bakayoko, Mendy; Louza, Ponceau; Bamba
UNAVAILABLE: Mendy (Injured), Kari (Injured), Dieng (Injured), Innocent (Injured), Silva (Injured), Boisgard (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
Both of these sides are underperforming quite badly as their respective seasons fizzle out. Marseille, now out of European competition, have very little to play for but players will be motivated ahead of the potential appointment of Paulo Fonseca this summer. Lorient, on the other hand, will have the motivation that they need a victory because nothing else will do for them. Given that, against a likely fatigued opposition, siding with the visitors would seem like decent value.
TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LORIENT TO WIN OR DRAW
