Lille still have a top four spot in their sights but a poor end to the season could see them drop as low as seventh. That should ensure that they are focused and highly motivated for this clash with Nantes, especially after they secured a superb win over Marseille last time out.
Lille overturned a 0-1 half-time deficit after Jonathan Clauss had given Marseille the lead. A solid second half showing ensued with Jonathan David converting from the spot five minutes after the break before Jonathan Bamba completed the comeback with an effort in the final 20 minutes.
It was a superb win for Lille and one they will hope to build on. They have lost just one of their last six matches while they boast an impressive home record having won their last four and not tasting defeat at home in Ligue 1 since the 31st August.
NANTES
Nantes have it all to do to avoid relegation and start this weekend inside the bottom four. They have Auxerre within touching distance but this is a daunting trip for them and they come into it on the back of an extremely poor run of form.
They have failed to win any of their last 13 league matches and have lost three of their last four after going down to Montpellier last week. In a 0-3 loss, Jordan Ferri, Arnaud Nordin and Falaye Sacko all found the back of the net and confidence is likely to be extremely low ahead of this matchup.
Nantes have failed to win any of their last six Ligue 1 matches on the road and despite showing they can compete away from home earlier in the season across all competitions, that form has deserted them when it matters the most.
THE PREDICTION
Lille and Nantes both have plenty to play for but at different ends of the table. Lille are right in the mix for the European spots while Nantes are locked in a relegation battle. The visitors have struggled for a long period now and have gone 13 league games without a win. On the other hand, Lille are proving difficult to beat and with an excellent home record to boot, it is hard to see anything other than a win for the hosts in this one.
