THE LOWDOWN

LE HAVRE

For the first time in over 15 seasons, Le Havre were promoted back to the top-flight of French football last season. They started the season quite steadily and spent the majority of the season in the middle-of-the-table but have really struggled in the second-half of the campaign, firmly involved in the Ligue 1 relegation battle.

The hosts did, though, move outside of the bottom three and the relegation places on goal difference above Metz last weekend with a thrilling 3-3 draw against champions-elect Paris Saint-Germain in a game where Le Havre led by three goals to one and also conceded a 95th minute equaliser, scored by Goncalo Ramos.

STRASBOURG

Alongside other Ligue 1 sides, such as Lorient, Strasbourg have had to deal with off-field supporter protests throughout the campaign as a result of the American-led takeover by Todd Boehly, which has made Strasbourg all but a feeder club to Premier League giants Chelsea. The off-field issues have contributed to an underwhelming season on the pitch.

Under the management of former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, Strasbourg have moved themselves away from the bottom three and the danger zone but the visitors come into this one on the back of back-to-back losses. The most recent of those defeats came at home to an out of form Nice side last weekend where they lost by three goals to one.

THE TEAM NEWS

LE HAVRE

There are two absentees for this weekend’s clash with Strasbourg for Le Havre as both Arouna Sangante and Hungary international Loic Nego are out suspended.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Desmas; Lloris, Kinkoue, Salmier, El Hajjam; Targhalline, Kechta; Sabbi, Kuzyayev, Casimir; Ngoura

UNAVAILABLE: Nego (Suspended), Sangante (Suspended)

STRASBOURG

Strasbourg have several issues for this weekend in terms of availability as the likes of Lebo Mothiba and Angelo Gabriel remain sidelined through injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Bellaarouch; Guilbert, Perrin, Sylla; Senaya, Santos, Sissoko, Delaine; Bakwa, Sahi; Emegha

UNAVAILABLE: Diarra (Suspended), Angelo Gabriel (Injured), Mothiba (Injured), Fila (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

What has been the theme of any relative success that Le Havre have enjoyed this season has been their defensive style of football. That focus on being quite reactionary has meant they have scored just 30 goals in 31 games – which is the lowest of any team in Ligue 1. Strasbourg have struggled for fluency and rhythm throughout the Patrick Vieira-coached season and have managed just 34 of their own. As a result, this is unlikely to be a thriller for the neutral.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
