For much of this season, Clermont have badly struggled and they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in Ligue 1 having already been mathematically relegated – which has been the expectation of them for pretty much the entirety of the time they have been in the French top-flight.
The home team have stuck by their long-term manager Pascal Gastien as they begin to prepare for a summer in which they will once again ambitiously attempt to get back into Ligue 1. They come into this one on the back of a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Monaco in the principality last weekend with goals coming from Takumi Minamino, Breel Embolo and a Wissam Ben Yedder brace.
LYON
After a turbulent summer in which Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor came under serious pressure, Lyon began the season extremely badly and spent most of the opening few months sitting in the bottom two and the automatic relegation places with both Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso being sacked.
They have, though, returned to being one of the very teams in the country ever since the appointment of Pierre Sage. They come into this one on the back of a thrilling 4-3 defeat of Lille in their most recent outing, making it back-to-back victories. They have been very entertaining and front foot under Sage, too.
