THE LOWDOWN

BREST

Stade Brest enjoyed an absolute thriller in Rennes last weekend. Rennes raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Armand Kalimuendo in the opening nine minutes before Brest fought back and ended up 4-2 up in the second-half. Rennes then brought the game back to 4-4 before Lilian Brassier scored a stoppage-time winner for Brest.

Prior to that loss, the hosts were in danger of really sliding away and missing out on what would be a remarkable achievement by finishing in the top three and earning UEFA Champions League qualification. They went into that nine-goal thriller on the back of back-to-back losses against Lyon and Monaco.

NANTES

Nantes have endured a very different campaign in Ligue 1 with the Canaries having to resort to bringing back Antoine Kombouare after the sackings of both Pierre Aristouy and Jocelyn Gourvennac. Performances have improved since the return of Kombouare but they remain firmly involved in the relegation battle.

The visitors shared a 1-1 draw with Montpellier Herault at Stade de la Mosson last weekend with Akor Adams scoring after two minutes for Montpellier but Nantes fought back soon after through Matthis Abline. They have won two, drawn one and lost two of their five matches since the March international break.

THE TEAM NEWS

There is just one availability issue for Stade Brest this weekend as they face Nantes. Defender Julien Le Cardinal is missing through suspension for this one.

NANTES

There are several injuries for Nantes this weekend and the likes of Bastien Meupiyou, Moses Simon, Douglas Augusto and Remy Descamps are sidelined.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lafont; Amian, Castelletto, Pallois, Cozza; Chirivella, Sissoko; Coco, Mollet, Abline; Mohamed

UNAVAILABLE: Descamps (Injured), Augusto (Injured), Simon (Injured), Meupiyou (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

What has underpinned Stade Brest’s remarkable success under the management of former Sunderland player Eric Roy has been an impressive defensive record. However, since the break, their last four matches have consisted of 25 goals. Nantes need points and need wins so, despite being naturally on the back foot, will likely have clear openings in a game whereby Brest are firm favourites, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: BREST TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
