Gary O’Neil’s stint as AFC Bournemouth’s permanent boss has been a tough and difficult one but The Cherries may well have stumbled upon a winning formula and selection, following their surprise 1-0 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux in their most recent outing, last weekend.
It was a busy January transfer window for The Cherries but have already lost one of their key defensive signings with Illya Zabarnyi last week’s victory due to injury. Marcos Senesi, who was a major doubt for that match, played and played well with the Argentine defender shining alongside Jack Stephens in the middle of a back four.
Given their performances, and the result, it would appear unlikely for O’Neil to change the four-at-the-back system and personnel involved, given that they have been searching for some sort of winning formula. Given that, Adam Smith and Jordan Zemura are likely to retain their full-back slots.
Hamed Junior Traore came in during the January transfer window, too, and has impressed in midfield, playing in a more advanced role ahead of the two holding players, Jefferson Lerma and Philip Billing last week, due to an injury to key man Lewis Cook.
Marcus Tavernier returned to the side last weekend, too, and the versatile former Middlesbrough man, who has been successful as a midfielder, scored the winning goal as a winner last weekend. However, he is unavailable due to injury so Jaidon Anthony should come back into the side. Dominic Solanke and Dango Ouattara being the star attractions in attack.
O’Neil has options up-front with the likes of Ryan Christie, Kieffer Moore and Antoine Semenyo
