THE LOWDOWN
NEWCASTLE
It's been an excellent week for Newcastle, who emphatically defeated Sheffield Utd 0-8 last weekend, before eliminating Man City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
It wasn't so long back that Eddie Howe was facing questions about having lost three games in succession, but the Magpies have responded by keeping four clean sheets since that dip, and they have a fairly kind run of fixtures in the Premier League in the coming weeks that gives them an excellent chance to further climb the table.
BURNLEY
Burnley battled well with Man Utd last weekend but were ultimately on the losing side, and they are still searching for their first win of the Premier League season in what has been a difficult start for Vincent Kompany's men.
There was some solace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday with the Clarets comfortably beating League Two strugglers Salford, but improved Premier League form is undoubtedly the priority for the promoted club.
THE TEAM NEWS
NEWCASTLE
Eddie Howe has some injury concerns in both defence and attack to deal with, as Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are all considered doubtful at this stage. On Botman and Wilson specifically, Howe said he would give them "every chance" of featuring.
Harvey Barnes is out until 2024 with the foot injury that forced him off early last week, while Emile Krafth makes his long-awaited return with the U21 side on Friday evening.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Gordon
UNAVAILABLE: Krafth (Fitness), Willock (Injured), Barnes (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Botman (Injured), Burn (Illness), Isak (Injured), Wilson (Injured)
BURNLEY
Johann Berg Gudmundsson lasted just 20 minutes of last week's defeat to Man Utd but the early signs were that it wasn't serious so he could potentially shake off the knock to start here.
Manuel Benson picked up an injury midweek and will not be considered for selection, while Lyle Foster serves the final game of his suspension.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Trafford; Roberts, Al Dakhil, Beyer, Taylor; Ramsey, Cullen, Brownhill; Gudmundsson, Amdouni, Koleosho
UNAVAILABLE: Ekdal (Injured), Obafemi (Injured), Benson (Injured), Redmond (Injured), Churlinov (Injured), Foster (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE: Gudmundsson (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Given that they are desperately searching for their first Premier League win of the season, this fixture comes at a bad time for Burnley as opponents Newcastle are absolutely flying right now. In light of Sheffield Utd's spectacular collapse last weekend, the Clarets will surely not approach this game in the same manner as their fellow promoted side, but you'd still fancy to Magpies to be leading at the end of each half.
