THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

Man Utd’s narrow victory over Bournemouth on Saturday saw them put one foot in next season’s Champions League and they now need just a point from their final two games in order to guarantee a top-four finish.

A moment of magic from Casemiro after just nine minutes was all it took to separate the sides in a contest that otherwise contained very few clear-cut chances for either side. It was hardly a vintage Red Devils performance but it won't matter to Erik ten Hag right now, who will see Champions League qualification as a successful first season in the Old Trafford hot seat. Third place is also within Man Utd's grasp if they are to take advantage of this game in hand they have over Newcastle, who are one point above them in the Premier League table.

CHELSEA

Frank Lampard's second stint in charge of Chelsea has not brought about the improvement that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy had hoped, with their last outing being a 1-0 defeat to newly-crowned Premier League champions Man City.

There was the possibility of Chelsea delaying Man City's title coronation had Arsenal not slipped up against Nottingham Forest a day earlier, but the Premier League trophy was already in the bag ahead of kick-off at the Etihad. It didn't take long for City to go ahead courtesy of Julian Alvarez though, and Chelsea never really threatened to respond. They have now won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions as they prepare to take on a Man Utd side they will hope to challenge for a top-four place next season.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN UTD

There is a minor doubt still hanging over Marcus Rashford after illness kept the England international out of the Bournemouth fixture, but Ten Hag sounded reasonably confident about his condition in the pre-match press conference and the omens look good after Rashford's return to training on Tuesday. Should he be declared fit, he is likely to come into the side at the expense of Jadon Sancho, although fielding Rashford up front instead of Anthony Martial is another option.

We are not likely to see Phil Jones, Lisandro Martinez, Donny Van de Beek or Marcel Sabitzer again this season.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial

UNAVAILABLE: Jones (Injured), Martinez (Injured), Van de Beek (Injured), Sabitzer (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Heaton (Fitness), Rashford (Fitness)

CHELSEA

Despite a string of injuries, Frank Lampard still has plenty of options at his disposal when it comes to team selection. In goal, he has alternated between Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga in recent games and would not clarify who would don the gloves for this fixture, while midfielder Mateo Kovacic faces a race against time to be fit after missing out against Man Utd's city rivals.

Kalidou Koulibaly made his return from the bench last time out and could find himself in the starting line-up here, while the rest of the starting line-up are only educated guesses given how frequently Lampard has rotated the pack during his tenure.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Kepa; W. Fofana, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly; Azpilicueta, Fernandez, Gallagher, Hall; Havertz; Felix, Sterling

UNAVAILABLE: Bettinelli (Injured), Badiashile (Injured), Cucurella (Injured), James (Injured), Chilwell (Injured), Kante (Injured), Mount (Injured), Broja (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Kovacic (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

With Man Utd needing just a point to guarantee Champions League football next season, Erik ten Hag will be demanding that his players get the job done here so that they don't leave their fate until the final Premier League game of the season. Fortunately for the hosts, they face a Chelsea side lacking direction and a cohesive play-style. With Marcus Rashford likely to be back in the Utd starting line-up, they should possess enough firepower to secure the point they need, if not all three.
