THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

  • Liverpool extended their winning run to four games in all competitions this past Sunday as they cruised past Championship side Cardiff 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth-round with new signing Luis Diaz making his debut off the bench.
  • Both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah competed in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final but it appears that Salah in particular has a chance of featuring, although Jurgen Klopp could stick with the same front three that started against Cardiff.

LEICESTER

  • It was misery for Leicester in the fourth-round of the FA Cup as they were thrashed 4-1 by East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, a humbling result for the Foxes who now return to the ground in which they lost on penalties in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup just before Christmas.
  • Key players such as Jamie Vardy, Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans are all out through injury as are Timothy Castagne and Ryan Bertrand.

THE TEAM NEWS

UNAVAILABLE: Mane (Rested)

QUESTIONABLE: Gomez (Fitness), Origi (Injured), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Fitness), Salah (Rested)

LEICESTER

PREDICTED XI (4-3-1-2): Schmeichel; Pereira, Vestergaard, Soyuncu, Justin; Tielemans, Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall; Maddison; Daka, Iheanacho

UNAVAILABLE: Bertrand (Injured), Castagne (Injured), Evans (Injured), Fofana (Injured), Vardy (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Mendy (Fitness)

THE PREDICTION

The gap between Liverpool and Premier League leaders Man City could be as large as 12 points by the time the Reds kick off here, making this match a must win from their perspective. The expected absences of both Mane and Salah of course weaken them going forward, but the return of Harvey Elliott through injury alongside the signing of Diaz mitigates not having their two main attackers. Leicester shocked Klopp’s side in the reverse fixture, beating them 1-0 at the King Power Stadium and Liverpool will be determined to take revenge here. Against an opposition shorn of numerous key defensive players alongside their main forward threat, Liverpool with home advantage in their favour should be backed to overcome the Foxes and secure an important three points.

Tip: LIVERPOOL TO WIN
