THE LOWDOWN

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Crystal Palace played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend, extending their unbeaten league run to seven matches although they were indebted to goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, who pulled off an outstanding save late on to deny Burnley a winning goal.
  • Palace fans will have been delighted to see Eberechi Eze on the bench for the first time after injury has kept him out of action across the season so far, however Nathan Ferguson remains absent and central midfielder James McArthur is also out due to a hamstring injury.

ASTON VILLA

  • Steven Gerrard’s reign as Aston Villa manager got off to the perfect start as his side overcame Brighton 2-0 at Villa Park through goals Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings inside the last ten minutes.
  • Wingers Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet are both expected to miss out through injury but Douglas Luiz has recovered from his hamstring issue and will travel with the squad.

THE PREDICTION

Crystal Palace will want to keep their unbeaten run going here against an Aston Villa side full of momentum following their first win since September and Steven Gerrard knows the importance of backing up a good result, rather than letting all their hard work go to waste the following weekend. Villa’s win over Brighton was a tight affair and similar is expected against the Eagles with three of Crystal Palace’s last four home league games having seen under 2.5 goals scored. Backing the same outcome to occur in this contest appears to be the smart play in a fixture that may well see both sides cancel each other out.

Tip: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
