THE LOWDOWN
BRENTFORD
Thomas Frank was left ‘unbelievably irritated’ after his Brentford side suffered a 4-2 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Monday evening. That means that, despite a general recent improvement in their performances, Brentford have now suffered five defeats in their last six matches in the Premier League.
The Bees have welcomed back some key men in recent weeks and that is what has led to their generally improved performances. However, especially after Everton were able to propel themselves clear of the bottom three with the return of four points from their points deduction, Brentford are now under major pressure as they battle against relegation.
CHELSEA
Mauricio Pochettino remains under major pressure in charge of Chelsea but The Blues do come into this one on the back of a much-needed victory in midweek. They came from behind to defeat Championship side Leeds United by three goals to two in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a late winning goal scored by Conor Gallagher.
A few days before that, though, the pressure had increased upon Pochettino as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium with Virgil van Dijk scoring a 117th minute winner in extra-time in that match. They do remain in contention for a top seven finish and European qualification.
THE TEAM NEWS
BRENTFORD
Brentford are missing several key first-team players for this weekend's game against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon with the latest being Ben Mee, who limped off from their 4-2 defeat to West Ham last week.
The likes of Ethan Pinnock, Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva, Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade all remain unavailable for the Bees, too.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Flekken; Ajer, Jorgensen, Collins; Lewis-Potter, Onyeka, Norgaard, Jensen, Reguilon; Toney, Maupay
UNAVAILABLE: Pinnock (Injured), Mee (Injured), Hickey (Injured), Henry (Injured), Dasilva (Injured), Mbeumo (Injured), Schade (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
CHELSEA
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that both Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella are now no longer sidelined by injury and could make their return for the Blues this weekend.
Chelsea will, though, still be without the likes of Reece James and Wesley Fofana at the back, as well as Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka and Christopher Nkunku.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Gusto, Silva, Colwill, Chilwell; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Gallagher, Sterling; Palmer
UNAVAILABLE: Fofana (Injured), Badiashile (Injured), James (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Ugochukwu (Injured), Chukwuemeka (Injured), Nkunku (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Silva (Injured), Cucurella (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
The reverse fixture between these two sides saw Brentford defeat Chelsea by two goals to nil at Stamford Bridge. Brentford have been really difficult to play against ever since their promotion to the top-flight but they have majorly drifted from that pragmatic, direct style of football this time around. They are, though, playing in a way that would make them ‘due a win’, albeit not necessarily last time out against West Ham. Given that Chelsea cannot and should not be trusted, regardless of their opposition, siding with Brentford looks a good bet for this one, especially with their home advantage.
TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – BRENTFORD TO WIN OR DRAW
