THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

Aston Villa effectively ended Liverpool's Champions League hopes with a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening but it was almost the perfect result had the departing Roberto Firmino not equalised in the 89th minute.

With European aspirations of their own, Villa went into the Liverpool fixture with plenty of motivation and could have gone ahead after 22 minutes were it not for Ollie Watkins fluffing his lines from the penalty spot. Not to be deterred though, Unai Emery's men continued to probe and duly took the lead just five minutes later courtesy of Jacob Ramsey. The Villa rearguard were a tough nut to crack from there on in, and even after Firmino's equaliser, they held out for a draw through ten minutes of injury time.

BRIGHTON

The midweek draw with Man Utd saw Brighton secure sixth place beyond any doubt, and with it a spot in next season's Europa League - a fine achievement for a team whose recruitment has been lauded by many onlookers.

The Seagulls knew that even if they lost to the champions, there was very little chance of them being overtaken by Aston Villa given their vastly superior goal difference over the midlands side, but that did not stop them playing with the confidence and vigour that has been typical of them under Roberto De Zerbi. They went behind to a Phil Foden goal after 25 minutes but it didn't take them long to level matters as the emerging Julio Enciso thundered an unstoppable strike past the despairing Stefan Ortega. Brighton could even have gone on and won it, but there was nevertheless a party atmosphere at the AMEX come full-time.

THE TEAM NEWS

ASTON VILLA

Alex Moreno has been added to the injury list after undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury sustained against Liverpool, so that should see Lucas Digne start at left-back once more. On the opposite flank, Matty Cash and Ashley Young will compete for a spot with Emery opting for the former last time out.

Jed Steer and Philippe Coutinho are the other confirmed absentees, while Diego Carlos and Calum Chambers are available for selection after both defenders were missing from the squad last week.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Kamara, Luiz; Bailey, McGinn, Ramsey; Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Steer (Injured), Moreno (Injured), Coutinho (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

BRIGHTON

With a Europa League place now guaranteed, Roberto De Zerbi can afford to give minutes to some fringe players if he so wishes, but he will likewise be tempted to field the majority of the team who have performed so well this season.

With rumours of their departure gathering pace, Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister are likely to be given a send-off, although whether from the start or not is up for debate, while the impressive Evan Ferguson will hope to start up front after he was benched midweek.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Steele; Veltman, Dunk, Colwill, Estupinan; Gross, Caicedo; Enciso, Undav, Mitoma; Ferguson

UNAVAILABLE: Webster (Injured), Lamptey (Injured), Moder (Injured), Lallana (Injured), March (Injured), Sarmiento (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Sanchez (Personal reasons)

THE PREDICTION

Two sides who have enjoyed excellent seasons under new managers meet on the final day in what could be an excellent spectacle given how both have performed over the last couple of months. In terms of motivation though, the edge has to go to Villa given that they will be determined to hold on to a European place, and in front of their own fans they can be backed to get the job done. Given Brighton's quality though, selecting the draw no bet market will offer some insurance.
