THE LOWDOWN

ARSENAL

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have lost in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League in 2024 but they have been absolutely perfect in the Premier League with seven wins out of seven since the turn of the year. In those seven victories, the Gunners have notched an incredible 31 times and they have conceded just three in that stretch.

Their most recent outing saw them travel north to Yorkshire to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday evening. Arsenal were 5-0 up at half-time with goals from Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and a Jayden Bogle own goal in the first-half before Ben White added a sixth just before the hour mark.

BRENTFORD

Thomas Frank was heavily critical of the supporters that chose to boo his team last weekend when they went a goal behind to west London rivals Chelsea at the Gtech Community Stadium. An improved second-half performance eventually led to the Bees sharing a 2-2 draw in that match as they try to rally themselves up and away from the bottom three and the relegation places.

Brentford’s performances have been much-improved in recent times ever since the return of Ivan Toney from suspension and they have scored two or more goals in six of their last nine matches across all competitions. However, they do begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just six points clear of the drop.

THE TEAM NEWS

ARSENAL

The key selection issue for Mikel Arteta this weekend will be in goal with David Raya ineligible to face his parent club, albeit his move to Arsenal becomes permanent in the summer. Aaron Ramsdale will return to the starting eleven this weekend.

The Gunners' boss has confirmed that he believes both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will be fit to face Brentford this weekend, whilst Jurrien Timber is out injured

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Odegaard, Jorginho, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: David Raya (Ineligible), Timber (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Tomiyasu (Injured), Zinchenko (Injured), Saka (Injured), Martinelli (Injured)

BRENTFORD

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has said that Cameroonian international forward Bryan Mbeumo is 'getting closer' to a return but he will remain unavailable for the time being having been missing for around three months now.

They are also without several key players, especially in defence, such as Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock and full back duo, Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Flekken; Ajer, Jorgensen, Collins; Roerslev, Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt, Reguilon; Toney, Wissa

UNAVAILABLE: Mee (Injured), Pinnock (Injured), Hickey (Injured), Henry (Injured), Dasilva (Injured), Mbeumo (Injured), Schade (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Arsenal are in relentless form. The Gunners have been magnificent in the Premier League this year to propel themselves right back into the title race alongside Manchester City and Liverpool. Mikel Arteta will be keen to rest and rotate ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg against Porto in midweek. Given the fact that Brentford have been really leaky at the back this season having conceded 50 in total – which is four more than they did in the entirety of last season – a comfortable home win is to be expected at the Emirates Stadium.

TIP: ARSENAL TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
