Seven teams finished between the top eight, which are the European playoff spots, and the bottom three relegation places in the 2022/23 Jupiler Pro League season; Sint-Truiden were one of those. In a high-scoring league, Sint-Truiden were one of the lower scoring and generally more reactive sides, under the management of Bernd Hollerbach. Hollerbach has been replaced for this campaign, though, by former Bayern Munich midfielder Thorsten Fink.
STANDARD LIEGE
In recent seasons, Standard Liege, one of Belgium’s ‘big three’ alongside Anderlecht and Club Brugge, have significantly underperformed. Last year, though, they were much-improved as they finished in the top eight and the European playoff spots. Their manager who led that, Ronny Deila, shockingly left the club towards the end of last season, joining Standard’s arch-rivals Club Brugge. Carl Hoefkens, of Club Brugge last season, is in charge of a Standard side who will be concerned about a return to the bottom-half of the table.
