Racing White Daring Molenbeek were promoted from the Belgian Challenger Pro League, winning the second-tier, under the management of Vincent Euvrard. Over the summer, though, Euvrard has been replaced in the dugout by former Lyon assistant manager and Newcastle defender, Claudio Capaca. It is Capaca’s first senior role in charge after being given the job by owner, John Textor, who also, coincidentally, owns Lyon and has a leading share in Crystal Palace and current Brazilian Serie A league leaders, Botafogo.
GENK
Last season, Genk began the season with a 3-2 defeat to Club Brugge but they were then phenomenal for the first three or four months of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League campaign. The visitors had seemingly built up an unassailable lead at the top-of-the-table but the second-half of the season saw them pretty much collapse and that carried on into the end of season championship round, where they eventually second, behind Antwerp. Wouter Vrancken remains in charge, though, and will be expecting to guide Blauw-Wit towards another title challenge.

Claudio Capaca spent eight years as Lyon’s assistant manager to a variety of different coaches so whatever formation he opts for is a bit of a mystery. The indication is that his preferred formation will be a 4-2-3-1 system. Kylian Hazard is out for a long period of time with a cruciate ligament rupture.

Newly-promoted RWDM do have seemingly smart owners that are capable of building successful sides, as shown by their own promotion and Botafogo’s impressive 2023 season. Last year, the second-tier winners, Westerlo, finished in the top eight and RWDM will be hoping to emulate them by comfortably surviving. They do face a tough opening test, though, as they get to grips with the top-flight. Wouter Vrancken’s Genk will be title challengers and they remain the firm favourites for this one.
