THE LOWDOWN
GENK
For much of the 2022/23 campaign, Genk were at the top in the Belgian top-flight but they have endured a generally difficult calendar year of 2023 and eventually missed out on reclaiming the title on the final day of the season. Wouter Vrancken has remained in charge as they seek to avoid another mini-collapse this season.
They come into this one on the back of yet another draw with Club Brugge at the Janbreydelstadion in midweek. Genk have now been frustrated by four draws in their last five matches as they sit just inside the top six ahead of this weekend. That has been combined with being knocked out of both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in August.
WESTERLO
Westerlo gained promotion to the Belgian top-flight in 2022 and they performed very well on their return to the elite level of Belgian football. Under the management of Jonas De Roeck, they
finished in the top eight and the end of season UEFA Europa Conference League playoff places with a very entertaining record with 119 goals coming in their 34 regular season matches.
They have started the 2023/24 Jupiler Pro League campaign poorly with just two points collected in their opening eight matches so far this season. They come into this on the back of a goalless draw away to Standard Liege in their most recent outing and they have managed to score just seven goals in their eight matches so far.

WESTERLO
Jonas De Roeck will continue searching for a winning formula with Westerlo as they struggle to cope with the second season back in Belgium’s top division.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Bolat; Bayram, Neustadter, Tagir; Reynolds, Van Eenoo, Sydorchuk, Bos; Matsuo, Chadli; Frigan
UNAVAILABLE: Perdichizzi (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Bernat (Injured), Yow (Injured), El Hari (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
It has been a relatively unconvincing start to the season for Genk and just a continuation of their poor form towards the end of their 2022/23 Jupiler Pro League campaign. They, though, will be more than confident of getting the better of a Westerlo side that are really struggling so far this season and the visitors face a really tough test this weekend. With their home advantage, a comfortable Genk victory is to be expected on Sunday.
