THE LOWDOWN

ANTWERP

Last season, Royal Antwerp began with nine successive victories as they sat at the top-of-the-table for the opening few months of the campaign. Under the management of Mark van Bommel, the home team fell away but did eventually lift themselves back to the top-of-the-table to win the league on the final day of the season.

The defence of their title has consisted of just four victories in their opening 12 matches as they sit outside of the top six ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. They come into this on the back of a much-needed 4-1 hammering of Lierse Kempenzonen in the cup in midweek after suffering a loss to Club Brugge, last weekend.

GENK

Under the management of Wouter Vrancken, Genk were the team that pinched top spot from Antwerp for much of last season before losing out on the final day of the season. Vrancken has remained in charge for this season but there has been a lot of need for improved performances this time around.

The visitors’ most recent outing was a 4-0 hammering of URSL Vise in the Round of 32 in the Belgian Cup in midweek. That victory followed on from them comfortably defeating struggling but much-improved Kortrijk by three goals to nil in the Jupiler Pro League, last weekend. They have suffered just one defeat in their 12 matches in the league so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

ANTWERP

Mark van Bommel is missing a couple of key players but there are no fresh injury or suspension concerns so they could name an unchanged eleven for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Butez; De Laet, Alderweireld, Coulibaly, Bataille; Vermeeren, Yusuf; Muja, Ekkelenkamp, Balikwisha; Janssen

UNAVAILABLE: Valencia (Injured), Keita (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ondrejka (Injured), Vines (Injured), Verhulst (Injured)

GENK

Genk and Wouter Vrancken are blessed with a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s trip to Antwerp so could remain unchanged for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Vandevoordt; Munoz, Cuesta, Sadick, Kayembe; Hrosovsky, Galarza, Heynen; Paintsil, Arokodare, Fadera

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

These two teams competed, alongside Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League title race with Royal Antwerp winning the title with a second-half stoppage-time winner from Toby Alderweireld. The home team were typically the opposite to the general style of football in the Jupiler Pro League with a more reactive game plan. Genk, also, have struggled for a bit of fluency but have a far more secure style for this season. A double chance bet in favour of the away team looks the way to go for this one against struggling defending champions.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – GENK TO WIN OR DRAW
