England vs Pakistan prediction

After scoring 149-9 with the bat against Sri Lanka, England fans had every right to be worried about the outcome of their opening game in the Super 8s. However, on a spin-friendly pitch in Colombo, Will Jacks dominated the powerplay and combined with the pace of Jofra Archer, the pair reduced Sri Lanka to 34/5 after six overs. Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid joined the party with two wickets each as seven of the hosts’ ten wickets fell to spin. In the end, England triumphed comfortably by 51 runs, bowling out Sri Lanka for just 95.

Pakistan didn’t get out on the field against New Zealand, so begin the Super 8 stage with a point and will move above England with victory here. Salman Agha’s side won three of their four games prior to the Super 8s but lost heavily to India. These teams appear well-matched on paper, particularly from a bowling perspective with Archer vs Shaheen Shah Afridi a mouth-watering prospect. In Pallekele, spin could be crucial and both teams are well covered in that department.

England’s batting can be inconsistent but it’s hard to ignore the strength-in-depth that they possess down the order. Players towards the tail-end of the line-up are capable of winning games with their bat which can’t be underestimated.
