THE PREDICTION

There has been a fair degree of hype around Callan Rydz this year but not many would have predicted a quarter-final appearance – and perhaps further – at Alexandra Palace. The 23-year-old has been something of a revelation though, and booked his last-eight berth with a fine 4-1 win over Alan Soutar on Thursday afternoon. Opponents don’t come much tougher than Peter Wright though, with the former champion moving ominously through the draw, the latest of which was a commanding 4-1 victory over Ryan Searle. Rydz is relishing playing in front of a boisterous crowd but Wright has bags of experience when it comes to occasions such as this and he is tipped to just about have enough to see off the up-and-comer.
