THE PREDICTION
These two experienced campaigners were involved in contrasting fourth-round matches as James Wade was rarely troubled in his 4-0 win over Martijn Kleermaker while Mervyn King had to dig deep and come from behind and defeat Raymond Smith 4-3. For King it is a first Ally Pally quarter-final since 2009 and the crowd have really got behind the veteran this year, and likely will do so once again in this contest. Wade certainly isn’t in unfamiliar territory with this being his ninth quarter-final at the PDC World Darts Championship but he has fallen at this hurdle five times previously and he will be determined to improve on that record and take a step towards adding the Sid Waddell Trophy to his glittering CV. This should be closely-contested between two battle-hardened throwers but Wade looks like he is more capable of finding that extra gear to get him over the finish line, with a hard-fought victory for The Machine predicted.
