THE PREDICTION

Peter Wright aims for his second world title against 2019 runner-up Michael Smith, and both are deserved finalists in what should be an enthralling climax to the PDC World Darts Championship. Whenever questions have been asked of Peter Wright in the last fortnight, he has found an answer and his semi-final performance against compatriot Gary Anderson in particular showed that he is ready to reclaim the Sid Waddell trophy. Snakebite hit a record 24 180s in that match and plenty more maximums should fly in here, with Smith also having been prolific on the red bit throughout the tournament.

Both players showed signs of fatigue towards the end of their respective semi-finals and Wright spoke of a knee issue that has been troubling him lately, but the adrenaline of a final should carry them both through to the end. It has been well documented that Smith has lost a lot of finals and his composure in the key moments has been called into question, but he is too good a player not to win this title at some point and this could well be his year if he holds it together. Whichever way it falls, over 11.5 sets looks tempting in the betting markets, as well as over 31.5 180s.
