Daniil Medvedev defeated Jan-Lennard Struff for the second time in a space of a week to move into the third-round of the Shanghai Masters. The 30-year-old comfortably beat Struff at the China Open but had to come from a set down on this occasion, winning 4-6 6-4 6-3 after one hour and 52 minutes. Medvedev, who won this tournament in 2019, now has eight wins from his last nine matches overall.

His next opponent is Dalibor Svrcina. The Czech made it back-to-back main draw Masters 1000 victories after overcoming Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Svrcina broke in the 12th game of the deciding set to win 6-3 3-6 7-5. He also saved 10 out of 13 break point opportunities. Svrcina got past Cameron Norrie in the opening round.

Medvedev leads the head-to-head 2-0 after a couple of straight set wins last year. He is likely to have too much quality for Svrcina once again.
