THE LOWDOWN

GLEN DURRANT

  • Glen Durrant defeated Gary Anderson in Cardiff last Thursday night to move to the top of the Premier League table with two wins and a draw from his opening three matches of his debut campaign in the competition.
  • The clinical finishing from Durrant was very evident in his victory against Anderson as he ended the match with a checkout percentage of 54% and never lost a leg in which he had a dart at a double.
  • Duzza produced some good performances last Saturday at Players Championship 5 where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual champion Peter Wright, who was in outstanding form. At Players Championship 6 on Sunday, he lost in the last 32 to Devon Petersen who averaged almost 105 in their encounter.

NATHAN ASPINALL

  • Nathan Aspinall bounced back from his loss against Rob Cross in Nottingham by impressively defeating world number one Michael van Gerwen 7-5 on night three with an average of 101.12.
  • Despite having led 4-2, Aspinall had to come from behind to win the match after Van Gerwen had edged in front at 5-4. Undeterred, a strong finish from Aspinall saw him claim the final three legs of the encounter.
  • The Asp lost in last-leg deciders in each of the two Players Championship tournaments last weekend, with a defeat against Gabriel Clemens on Saturday followed by an exit against Stephen Bunting on Sunday.

THE PREDICTION

These two Premier League debutants will be very happy at their haul of points from the opening three rounds of the campaign and they come into this match having earned notable wins in Cardiff, with Durrant beating Anderson and Aspinall defeating Van Gerwen. It’s very hard to separate them in terms of quality and it could well be a match that goes the distance and ends in a draw. Aspinall most 180s and a checkout of 118.5 from either player also look like strong possibilities.
