Daniel Dubois: ‘Dynamite’ looking to get back in world title picture
Daniel Dubois returns to the ring to rematch Fabio Wardley, and he will be looking for a repeat outcome, if not perhaps a repeat performance.
He was knocked down twice in one of the best fights of 2026 back in May at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, before rallying late to stop Wardley in the 11th round. That saw him win the WBO heavyweight title, bounce back from his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk and take his record to 23 wins and three losses.
The early knockdowns were something of a concern and there remain question marks over his chin, but he did stand up to a lot of pressure before his power eventually told, as he inflicted significant damage on Wardley throughout the fight.
He will come into this bout full of confidence, knowing a win here puts him in line to potentially face the winner of Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury.
Fabio Wardley: Ipswich star looking to avenge first ever loss
Fabio Wardley will be aiming to bounce back from his first ever loss as a professional boxer. He comes into this fight with a record of 20 wins, one loss and one draw, and he will be desperate to avoid successive defeats as he aims to regain the WBO belt he lost in May.
Wardley suffered significant swelling to his eye and nose, as well as cuts to his face, in that fight, and it is a relatively quick turnaround for heavyweights to be rematching less than six months later.
Nobody in the heavyweight division has more heart than Wardley, and he will be desperate to bounce back with a victory against Dubois here.
Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley 2 prediction
The first fight between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley was a classic, and given the styles of the two fighters there is every chance the rematch will follow suit on Saturday night. Neither fighter knows any different and both are very much wedded to their styles.
There was a fair degree of shock when Dubois was knocked down twice in the early rounds of the first fight, and for many fighters that might bring a little more caution into the rematch. However, it is hard to see Dubois having the fighting intelligence to do anything different from what he usually does.
Wardley may well have a slight speed advantage in the early rounds, and this time he really does have to capitalise on that and stop Dubois early if he is to get the win. Over the distance, one has to think that Dubois’ power will eventually tell, just as it did in the first fight, though you would hope Dubois will be a little more savvy about what to expect early on this time around.
There are big concerns over the punishment Wardley took in that first fight. Even though Dubois was knocked down twice, it was Wardley who suffered the greater physical damage, and that is a worry with such a short turnaround between fights.
We very much get the sense that pride has taken over with such a quick rematch, and that could very well be to Wardley’s detriment. As much as we love his style, grit and determination, more time out of the ring would surely have benefited him.
We can’t see anything other than a second Dubois victory, and it is hard to see this one going the distance either.
