Canelo Alvarez: Mexican legend looking to bounce back from Crawford defeat

Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2) returns to action for the 69th time in his stunning 21-year career, and he looks just as motivated now as he did the first time he fought. Even at the age of 36, Canelo looks as ripped as ever, and his preparation looks as impeccable as it has always been.

He is coming off just the third loss of his career, having seen a unanimous decision go against him in his fight with Terence Crawford in September last year.

He has only ever lost to some of the best fighters of all time in Floyd Mayweather Jr, Dmitry Bivol and Crawford, and he has never lost back-to-back fights, so he will be looking to bounce back once again in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.

Christian Mbilli: Unbeaten champion facing the biggest test of his career

Christian Mbilli (29-0-1) was elevated to WBC super middleweight champion at the start of 2026, after Terence Crawford was stripped of the title. An ordered fight against Hamzah Sheeraz never materialised, and he now puts the belt on the line against Canelo.

Mbilli won the interim title against Maciej Sulecki in Quebec City, Canada, in June 2025, and retained it with a split draw against Lester Martinez last September.

He will have to raise his game significantly against Alvarez, who is clearly better than anyone he has ever faced.

Canelo Alvarez vs Christian Mbilli prediction

There was a lot of doubt about whether this fight would even happen in Saudi Arabia given the troubles in the Middle East, but Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli finally get it on on Saturday night in what promises to be a fascinating bout.

Mbilli looks the part, has a height advantage and looks incredibly strong, but he has never fought anybody of Alvarez’s calibre.

If there is one thing that will keep Alvarez motivated after 21 years, it is coming off a loss, and Mexican pride will ensure he remains as motivated as ever as his career winds down.

Canelo has faced very similar fighters to Mbilli before and has managed to break them down, whereas Mbilli has never fought anybody of Canelo’s calibre. We fully expect the Mexican to break him down over the rounds, and even if he is unable to stop him, his speed and power will do enough damage to ensure Canelo wins on points.

Prediction: Canelo Alvarez to win by decision
