EDMONTON ROYALS
- Edmonton Royals fell to a disappointing defeat in their opening game of the Global T20 Canada as they failed to defend a decent score against Toronto Nationals as they went down to a two-wicket defeat.
- The Royals were able to post 191/6 with Ben Cutting top-scoring down the order with a quick-fire 43 from just 24 balls but it proved in vain as the Nationals were able to just get beyond the total with seven balls and two wickets remaining.
- Skipper Kane Williamson did not feature in the Royals’ opening game and it remains to be seen at what point he will return to the team following a busy summer in which New Zealand fell just short in the hunt for the World Cup.
BRAMPTON WOLVES
- Brampton Wolves announced themselves with a bang as the newly-formed side produced a stunning display to annihilate Montreal Tigers in their first-ever match in the Global T20 as they laid down a big marker for the rest of the competition.
- After skittling the Tigers for a meagre 101 off 18.2 overs, the run chase was expected to be a simple one but Lendl Simmons and George Munsey smashed 102 off just 40 balls as they fired their way to the ten-wicket win.
- Ish Sodhi was the man who did the most damage with the ball as he claimed a five-wicket haul off his four overs, conceding just eight runs as the Black Caps' leg-spinner put in a superb performance and he will be key again in what should be an unchanged line-up.
THE PREDICTION
Brampton Wolves produced an incredible display to win their first ever Global T20 game as they swept Montreal Tigers aside and will look to back up that as they face Edmonton Royals. The Wolves were comprehensive ten-wicket winners whilst the Royals lost by two wickets in their opening game and will want to bounce back here but with the Wolves in such a confident mood after that emphatic opening victory, Brampton can make it back-to-back wins to start the campaign.
